Misleading photo, but easily explained:

Here’s a pic of the as yet unnamed (but I have an idea) sweater I’m knitting up. First, the disclaimers: this was taken Friday night. As of last night, I am about four inches away from completing the body. Boy do I like knitting semi-bulky yarn. It is SPEEDY. Second, my husband took the shot, hence the focus on my breastacles rather than the sweater. SORRY.

I’m really liking it so far. I’ve got the body fitting pretty well, thanks to trying it on 8,000 times (I have learned my lesson, damn you Green Gable).  I’m adding a fair amount of cable rib to the bottom to balance the design at the top, and I’m a bit concerned with how that will stretch – I want it tight fitting but I also want this to go over the tops of my pants without being too snug. I’m tired of tops that ride up, especially when I raise my arm to write on a chalkboard. Short-waisted life does not mesh well with pants that are a teeny bit low – which is all you can buy these days without purchasing mom jeans. Basically, my underwear, the comfort of which I care about more than cut, is constantly above the backs of my pants. And this is not what I want my students to see. EVER.

So we’ll see how that goes.  I tried incorporated short rows into the bust and was somewhat successful, on one side. Knitting in the round complicates that whole endeavor. I basically ended up with a big gaping hole right on a boob. Not good. I used nona’s tutorial on Japanese short rows, which worked smashingly – until that one spot. (On the other side, I had one gap too, but right at the “seam” area, so it was fine.) Huh. So I frogged. But I’m happy to say that’s the only frogging I needed!!!! And, I’ll end up with a sweater longer in the back than the front, but hey. No underwear spottage at least. Latent function is acceptable, in this case.

After I knit this, I’ve got two small projects: a scarf for my youngest stepdtr, and this. Go check it out. Karma points, anyone? :-)

P.S. It is possible – likely even – that this sweater will be finished by Wednesday evening! The sleeves ought to go fast – thick yarn, magic loop, and 3/4 length. Yee haw.

  1. You’re so funny. Great shot (tell your husband) … it could get you a lot of air play on the men who knit type blogs.

That’s amazing how fast your sweater is going. Well done!

Thanks so much for mentioning the you-know-what project above. Very good of you.

    Have a great evening,

  2. Looks great! I love that sort of collar…and the cables too.
